TECH TANK BY SINCLAIR ENERGY PARTNERS LTD

Sinclair is developing a biomanufacturing product to convert carbon dioxide emissions from industries and wastewater into ethylene. The biomanufacturing also produces formulate with a different biocatalyst and reactor configuration. The core novelty of the ethylene synthesis is that the reaction is net energy positive and does not require hydrogen or carbon capture as a feedstock. The incorporation of carbon capture and hydrogen is the highest contributors to the cost of synthetic ethylene production. The biomanufacturing uses a novel biocatalyst and bioreactor configuration which enables a currently density of30% as compared to state-of-the-art alkaline electrolysis of hydrogen. This would allow bio ethylene to be produced at parity with fossil fuel-based ethylene.

TECH TANK BY PEAK TO PEAK

PktoPk specialise in cutting-edge measurement and monitoring systems and are now looking to offer a product line of non-invasive sensors for the measurement of melt properties in polymer manufacturing processes. PktoPk’s sensors can be easily retrofitted to provide real-time measurements in injection moulding, extrusion, and compounding machines. These measurements give operators greater insight into injection/extrusion processes and can be fed into the machine control to automatically account for varying material properties. For the first time, this will enable greater use of recycled plastics by optimising the proportion of recycled materials that can be mixed with virgin materials without degradation of the final part mechanical performance. This can be achieved without prior knowledge of the recycled material properties, and has the additional benefits of increasing process reliability, reducing material costs and waste, and allowing fully closed loop 'lights-out' manufacturing.

TECH TANK BY DRISK

dRISK currently has three products in market, which all use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, these are: ‘Scenarios’ - Rich edge case scenario data for training and testing Autonomous Vehicles in any simulation environment. Scenario data has been sourced from across the world and can be re-mapped along any deployment area and ODD parameters. ‘Edge’ - Collaborative user interface for scenario management and continuous performance evaluation. Management tool to interact with underlying knowledge graph of scenario data, understand where gaps exist and where to prioritize training. ‘Learn’ - Free simulation environment to enable faster than real time training, by seamlessly interfacing with industry's top simulators. Scenario data can be pipelined into a wide range of simulators depending on which part of the stack requires testing. The combination of these tools can be used to test an AV perception stack to identify capability gaps (dRISK scenarios), use this knowledge to re-train the stack to ensure that these gaps are filled (dRISK Learn) whilst making a safer, more competent AV, whilst using a tool (dRISK Edge) to manage the data in a user friendly and auditable manner. These tools are already being used by several of our customers with a feedback loop being employed to collect improvement ideas. This results in significantly decreased testing time whilst still conducting a broad and robust range of testing. Rather than test every eventuality an AV could find on the roads, we test against the worst cases. Faster test cycles, with an auditable data trail equals big cost savings.

Aided by Innovate UK, we are also engaging with industrial and academic partners to innovate across advanced sensorisation (better control), IoT (device monitoring) and AI/ML (pred. maintenance) to improve performance, reliability and longevity but also explore new business models (hardware-as-a-service); also deploying IoT and AI/ML in our factory to optimise resource usage and production throughput. Our core technologies are also enabling new applications such as active suspension, brake-by-wire, electro-hydrostatic actuation; this will help us exploit larger markets in the automotive (£90B) and aerospace (£39B) sectors, creating new opportunities for the UK economy.

TECH TANK BY Q5D

Q5D develops innovative technology that automates the wiring stage of a product. Wires are hard to handle with robots and until now this has not been possible to automate well. Q5D innovation has overcome this problem and provides a production-ready solution with our robotic wire deposition equipment. Our recently released product, Wire5D, consists of a robot with attachments for different processes: • Embedded wiring - lays wire directly into products • Component addition - fits components, e.g., connectors, to complete the circuits • Polymer printing – additive manufacture adds features, e.g., to encapsulate wires. Wire5D enables our customers to fully automate their product manufacture - improving quality, productivity, and supply chain resilience. We continue to develop new technologies and in 2024 we will launch our Circuit5D product: a unique printed electronics process. It creates high-quality conductive tracks on complex shaped surfaces - faster and more economical than other techniques that exist. It does this by spraying the surface of the product with conductive ink and then uses a laser to sinter and shape the ink into a solid metal.
