Applying Additive Manufacturing in Advanced Industrial Processes

06 Jun 2022 | Alix Paultre

The Siemens SimRod is an electric vehicle that leverages the latest additive manufacturing and other advanced production technologies. At the Hannover Fair, a model of the production line was used to demonstrate Siemens’ latest automation technology. The solutions shown included digital twins and additive fabrication as well as autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) and mobile robotics in the production line.

The SimRod e-car integrates the latest in product and manufacturing optimization across its entire life cycle. In the automotive sector, digital twins, the use of AGVs, and additive manufacturing are transforming planning and manufacturing. IT and operational technology are converging in the real and digital worlds, enabling continuous improvement loops to meet efficiency, cost, safety, and ecological requirements.
